Reason Why You Should See “The Nun”? It Is The Highest-Grossing Film In “The Conjuring” Universe
The Nun is officially the highest-grossing title in New Line’s Conjuring universe this weekend after it made it to the $330M benchmark, besting the $320M global pull that The Conjuring 2 made during its run.
The horror flick cost just $22M to produce and is heading toward a profit of over $100M after ancillaries. Last year’s entry, Annabelle:Creation made $305.6M in ticket sales and was able to yield a profit of 108.7M even with a production bill of $115M.
According to Deadline, The Nun can thank much of its success to its Latin markets internationally with Mexico bringing in $21.5M while Brazil followed behind with $17M. In Spain, the film pulled in $10.5Mwhile Columbia contributed to $6.2M.
In the US, Hispanic audiences account for nearly one-third of the $109M grossed at box offices across the United States.The film did so well that it contributed to one of the best September box office showing in history, pushing it up to $659.6M.
While the film did not open in any new markets, it still managed to come out ontop in the overseas box office this weekend, earning $16.2M in 80 territories, bringing its international tally to $221M: the best ever figure for any Conjuring film overseas as well.
