Davido Music Worldwide, DMW attempts to re-create new hit from existing global hit that was released in year 2004.
Song recycling isn’t a new thing in Nigerian music, just that it’s fast reducing, compared to past years, thanks to copyright laws dealing with people hijacking others creative works without giving proper credits.
It is fair to say it is fast becoming a yearly tradition for the Davido-led record label to churn out collaborative music before the artistes in the label start their individual projects for the year; ‘Mind’ clearly ushers their fans into the new year.
If you’re familiar with American R&B singer Usher’s mega hit track, ‘Caught Up’, housed on his ‘Confessions’ album, released about 14 years ago, relating with ‘Mind’ won’t be much of a problem, and there’s even every prospect that it will shape your mind and make you fall in love with ‘Mind’ more than projected.
Carefully produced by Fresh, Davido and his boys – Peruzzi, rapper Dremo and Mayorkun did well to serenade as they take their verses aligned with the catchy (pre) hook and chorus of the track. ‘Mind’ is a track that expresses love despite the challenges men face in the process of getting any lady they want. Of course, there are some risks involved in showing how much a man cares for her coy mistress.
“Fine fine girls wan come my way “shekpe”, but you are still the one I want o,” Davido starts off the track with this striking line. Mayorkun takes his verse narrating the qualities of other ladies who are after him for love, but he still sticks around to the one that has his heart.
Still making the mistress see why she should yield to their request, apparently, a frustrated Dremo chants, “One of my slay queen is a call away “a call away”, But I drove a thousand miles to find you,” before Peruzzi made us understand she later said ‘I love you’ following series of persuasions.
Peruzzi’s verse would have been an excellent way to end the track, but Davido came in with his silly lines “we don’t even mind collecting your boo…” after crediting the producer of the song, Fresh. Since y’all don’t mind collecting another man’s boo, then it means all DMW guys are not the good men they claimed to be in the song – they are just fcuk boys who would do everything humanly possible to get into bed with any lady they want.
