Five Nigerian Artistes To Watch Out For In 2018

This is  year 2018 with the ever evolving sounds coming from the other side, it is just wonderful to be alive

The beauty of having art oriented friends is — they  always transform your thoughts to accomplishments especially when it is related to their niche — but that is not why we are here.

At the end of the year 2017, it hit me hard again that Davido, Wizkid and Olamide still held the Nigerian’s entertainment to ransome, 5 years in a row is not child’s play, the last time we saw such strong hold was the friendly 2 Baba & D’banj’s era.  I know i am not the only one asking ” who is the baba doing their jazz?” , but i quickly realized these aforementioned names have their plans worked out, have the right team working their asses off, interact with fans on a steady and also help other artistes grow too; these are almost the essentials for success and i am tired of these people literally.

So i went online, to the streets and industry hang out spots to see which artistes  music lovers are hoping to grab 2018 by the balls and give these Goliaths a run for their money and in no particular i compiled a list of 5 artistes based on the success of  their past projects, personailities and recognition by their followers and it seems to be the year of alternative and indie lovers. Here are the top 5.

1. Wavy the creator

With over 4k twitter followers and 50k on instagram, the impressively dressed photogragher turned musician is doing amazing. Her personality goes way beyond her music. Jennifer Ejoke is a rebellious , eccentric, hardworking and all round a perfect human to explore the world with. Olamide’s personal photographer, wavy the creator gives a hook to die for. With songs like the euphoric “H.I.G.H” and Farabale, she creates an ecstasy in your ear buds that you will need in 2018 and forever.

2. Odunsi the engine.

With 10k twitter followers and 7k instagram followers Odunsi Bowo is gradually taking over the new school wave of making music in Nigeria. Is it not funny that stage names these days are having more than one word? , this is to show the buzzing amount of creativity in the mind of these young kings out there. Alternative singer, producer, sound enginner,  Odunsi has an EP out — Time Of Our Life– which isgathering massive recognition to the lad among a lot of “reformed” Nigerian youths.
3.  Ozzy B

With 8k twitter followers and 4k instagram followers, rapper singer, film director, actor, student has been described by Wizkid as the future of rap. Ozayaba Andrews who dropped The Diary Of a Loner mixtape at age 18 and The Birth of Santi at 21,Suzzie’s Funeral at 25 is nothing but greatness in the making; he has gathered a considerable amount of following amongst young people. The entertainer who recently opened up the show at Skepta’s house warming party is taking his craft across boarders. His genre is more likened to alternative and indie, with his songs being reviewed by , you know he is a big deal.

4. Moelogo

With 36k twitter follwers and 24k instagram followers, British-Nigerian songwriter Mohammed Animashaun is bringing  a fresh breath of RnB to music lovers. The man who believes so much in understanding and blending different genres together is the real osha pra pra. Not so big here in Nigeria, this gentleman has UK at her knees with notable collaborations with Giggs and Mo stack. The musician who first got recognition with the release of “Pangolo” has gone ahead to be a house hold name there in South London. He recently released  a 5 song EP “Ireti” with his producer P2J.
5. Dami Oniru

With 1k twitter followers and 2k instagram followers, UK based songstress is nothing short of buzzing melodies. The fast rising RnB singer is obviously not trying to be boxed in one type of genre. This “soundcloud” artiste is far from average from your Jane. The  independent artiste has songs like “iyawo” and “fallin” gathering  enough vibe to get heard here and abroad.  Shy as she may be, her voice preceeds her, like the Sia of America, Music is her passion she says. She won the Nigerian Teen Choice Award for Choice Female Vocalist.

This is  year 2018 with the ever evolving sounds coming from the other side, it is just wonderful to be alive. With Nonso Amadi, Maleek Berry, Ink Edwards, Adekunle Gold, Simi and the likes leading the pack as the predecessors, we know we are the somewhat safe from the Goliath  trios mentioned above. I cant categorically tell you if the previous statement will work out but what Mr My Craft can say is LOOK OUT FOR THESE ONES.
