Top 10 Most Illegally-Downloaded TV Series Of 2016

For the fifth year in a row, ‘Game of Thrones’ kings again, emerges the most pirated TV show in 2016.

According to Torrent Freak, ‘Game of Thrones’ becomes the most illegally-downloaded TV show of the year, followed by ‘The Walking Dead’, while ‘West World’ also competes closely to sit on the number three spot.

The highest number of people sharing an episode of ‘Game of Thrones’ across several torrents was 350,000, right after sixth season finale aired. The site notes that a lot of people have switched from torrents to streaming sites over the past months, which means the number of piracy could grow beyond the number of the illegal downloads via BitTorrent.

“The Walking Dead” still follows at No. 2, while freshman “Westworld”, a sci-fi drama, which is based on Michael Crichton’s 1973 film of the same name, has become a new hit on HBO.

Other newcomers in the top 10 of the list are FOX’s drama fantasy “Lucifer” and Amazon’s “The Grand Tour”. The latter, a British motoring series created by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May and produced by Andy Wilman following their departures from BBC’s series “Top Gear”, was previously falsely reported as the most pirated TV show, beating “Game of Thrones”. In fact, the show is just the most pirated U.K. TV show.
