Sully, the Clint Eastwood film starring Tom Hanks as Capt. Chelsey “Sully” Sullenberger, the pilot who landed a passenger jet on the Hudson River in 2009, accrued $35.5 million this weekend, flying to the top spot at the box office, according to the Associated Press.
The film reportedly cost $60 million to produce, the AP said, and landed well with audiences during its opening weekend.
The thriller When the Bough Breaks, starring Morris Chestnut and Regina Hill, took second place with $15 million.
Films Don’t Breathe and Suicide Squad, which dominated the late summer box office, moved to third and fourth place this weekend, with $8.2 million and $5.6 million, respectively.
