American professional basketball player, LeBron Raymone James has agreed to a new contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers– a three-year, $100-million deal that will make him the NBA’s highest-paid player for a single season. For leading the Cavs to their historic title last June, he got himself a well-deserved raise exceeding $8 million.
“I’m re-signing back with the Cleveland Cavaliers, my hometown team,” James said in a video posted on sports news website Uninterrupted.
“I can’t be more excited than this opportunity once again, man, to defend our crown, defend our title.
“We all know last year as a magical, inspiring, all the words you can come up with, it was an unbelievable season. I just can’t wait to get the group back together.”
The new three-year deal will see the four-time NBA MVP earn a staggering $31 million next season, which would make him the highest paid player in the division, with his salary set to reach $33 million in the 2017-18 season.
James, 31, won two championships for the Miami Heat before returning to the Cavaliers in 2014, leading them to the NBA finals where they lost to the Golden State Warriors. However, they reversed the result last season, sensationally overturning a 3-1 final deficit against Steve Curry and the Golden State Warriors.
