As the first New York Fashion Week invitations begin to trickle into our inboxes (giving us anxiety we didn’t even know was possible in August), it can only mean one thing. The September issues are officially upon us.
Yes, we are aware that the dog days of summer have barely begun, but as you should well know by now, the most important annual edition of every fashion publication worth its Manolos waits for no man. And while we’ve already seen some pretty great ones so far, InStyle’s Kerry Washington cover just might take the cake.
The 39 year old star who is pregnant with her second child is the cover star of the September issue of InStyle magazine …She opened up on taking a break from social media, saying…
I started to feel overwhelmed, like there was too much noise. I felt like I had to get back to who Kerry really is…That thing that happens in social media where you’re comparing your day or your life or your food or your mood or your kids to somebody else’s. I felt like I needed to create a little more stillness around me.
On her skin colour,she said
I don’t want to not be African. The goal is to live in a world where my race doesn’t limit my access, where I can see myself represented in the highest level of society without any limitation.
September cover star Kerry Washington feels positive about social change. "I choose to feel optimistic, because I don't think that I could get out of bed if I didn't," she says inside the new InStyle. "The key will be when we stop allowing our otherness to separate us." Well said, Kerry. 📸: @thomaswhiteside; styling: @instylemelissa; hair: @takishahair; @makeup: @carolagmakeup; manicure: @caseynails; set design: @betteradams for @maryhowardstudio 🌸 Celine top; @leighmillerjewelry earrings.
