Post Malone will probably forever be linked to Allen Iverson, regardless of how many songs and albums he drops between now and the end of his career. That’s because he got his start and made his first real impact on the music world by dropping “White Iverson,” a track that was released in August 2015 and eventually peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
But despite the song’s success, Post and AI have never had the chance to meet. When ComplexMag caught up with AI for an interview back in March, he told them that he was a big fan of the song but that he had never crossed paths with the guy who made it.
“I never got an opportunity to meet him,” AI said. “I want to meet him. He did an awesome job. I was just telling my friend on the way over here that when we get in the car, we hear [“White Iverson”] at least like 10 times a day. It definitely gets a lot of record play around here. And it’s just an honor for him to make a song with my name in it.”
Post was interviewed by TMZ Sports on Thursday, and towards the end of the interview, he was asked whether or not a meeting between him and AI had taken place yet. He said no, but he also said that there’s a good chance it could take place in the near future thanks to a sheikh in Dubai who is apparently trying to throw a party featuring the rapper and the former NBA star.
“I have not met Allen,” Post said. “I might be going to Dubai to do a show and he might be there…Some sheikh told me that he wants to do like a party over there and Allen will be in attendance.”
We love the idea of Post randomly having a casual conversation with “some sheikh” as much as we love the idea of the first Post Malone/Allen Iverson meeting coming about as a result of that sheikh shelling out a bunch of money to make it happen at a party in Dubai. It almost seems too perfect.
