Police Arrests Man Who Chained His Son For Over A Month
Pastor of Celestial Church of Christ, Key of Joy Parish, Ajibawo, Atan-Ota Town of Ogun State, Francis Taiwo, who allegedly chained his nine-year-old son for weeks, has been arrested.
The Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the arrest yesterday, said the suspect was arrested with the assistance of his church members.
The suspect had been on the run since police and officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), rescued the victim, Korede Taiwo on Friday. The victim’s stepmother, he said, had earlier been arrested by the police. He announced that the malnourished boy would be handed over to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare for further rehabilitation.
Adejobi also said the boy’s stepmother, Kehinde Taiwo, was already in police custody, adding that Taiwo would be charged to court as soon as investigations were completed.
It would be recalled that the police working with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, had on Friday rescued the victim, Korede Taiwo, from an apartment in the church where he was chained.
The authorities said they acted on a tip-off. Korede’s neck was chained to a heavy log of wood in a room for “more than a month” for allegedly stealing. What a cruel world when some people are out here begging for kids.
