Jay Z’s Signee Blasts Justin Timberlake For Never Supporting The Black Culture
Sexy Back singer Justin Timberlake recently found himself in hot water on social media when he attempted to praise the powerful speech Jesse Williams gave at the 2016 BET Awards. Many felt that Timberlake completely missed the point of Williams’ speech due to the singer’s tweets.
The topic was addressed on an episode of The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore where Vic Mensa was panelist (signed to Jay Z’s Roc A Fella). The Chicago rapper explained that Timberlake caught flack because he benefits from black culture without supporting black people.
“I feel as if the issue is not Justin Timberlake having an input or even appreciating what was said in the speech. That’s something that everybody, most people can resonate with. Our problem here is that Justin Timberlake himself, you know, is definitely benefiting from using black culture for his sound, his dance moves, his dancers, and blowing up off of it. But if you roll down Justin Timberlake’s Twitter for the past two years, which I just did, you see nothing that supports black people when it’s more difficult, when there’s a struggle. He said
Vic Mensa talked about how he has not seen Justin Timberlake express sympathy or support for the plight of black people in America. The “U Mad” MC felt that Timberlake avoids the subject because it’s not good for his career.
“With everything that’s going on and everybody that’s been killed by police on camera in the last couple of years, there’s no Black Lives Matter,” Vic said of Timberlake’s Twitter content. “There’s no praying for Baltimore. There’s no praying for Flint. You know, because that’s a dangerous subject for him to touch. And we’re not feeling him being down when it’s beneficial to him and turning a blind eye when it could be dangerous.”
Later in the conversation, Vic Mensa stated that black people are tired of feeling used. He also stressed that if Justin Timberlake expressed his appreciation for Jesse Williams’ speech in a better way, the former NSYNC member would not have faced this backlash.
But to my own understanding, Justin is only applauding something he could relate to so why are you angry Vic ? You can never please humans tbh.
